The meeting of the Capital Outlay Committee was held at 7:30 pm in the Selectmen's Meeting room and was called to order at 7:36 p.m. by Chair Paul Linehan.

1.   Administrative Items

 

                  Approval of December 10 , 2009 Minutes

 

MOVED and SECONDED to accept the December 10, 2009 Minutes  VOTED: 5-0-1

 

2.      Sharon Public Schools Capital Outlay Requests FY2011 – Dr. Dunham

 

Dr. Barbara Dunham, Superintendent of Schools, Ken Wertz and Leo Brehm presented the following Sharon Public School Requests:

 

v     Total District-wide Technology                   $367,600

v     Total Sped Acoustics                                      57,475

v     Total Furniture                                                79,914

v     Total District-wide Projects                          699,975

v     Total District-wide SPED School vans         49,000

 

Chair Linehan requested breakdown on Energy Conservation Projects and more information on the Sharon High School Weight Room.

 

 

 

 

 

3.   Town-wide Planning Update – Eli Hauser, Planning Board

 

Eli Hauser of the Sharon Planning Board came before the Committee to give an up-date on the Town-wide Planning.

 

Background

 

v     About 45 Owners, 63 parcels;

v     Centrally located, immediate to Commuter Rail;

v     Contains Post Office, Town Hall, Library, and Fire Station.

 

Vision

 

v     A town center where more of the townspeople’s needs are wants can be satisfied.  A place to do errands and business, and participate in civic and cultural activities, enriched by a strong sense of community;

v     Goal is to create a mixed-used local downtown shopping district consistent with Smart Growth and transit oriented development principles.

 

    Design Objectives

 

v     Pedestrian and Consumer Focus:  Accessibility, Usability and Intimacy

v     The Build Environment:  Compact Zoning;

v     Housing and Affordability:  Smart Growth, and;

v     Wastewater Management.

 

4.    Future Meeting Date and Agenda Items

 

The Capital Outlay Tour is scheduled for Saturday, January 9 at 9:00 a.m.

 

It was MOVED and SECONDED to adjourn.  VOTED: 6-0-0
